Community Development

Without the support of our (extended) community, Mile Hill Melodrama would not be where we are today. With that in mind, much of the funds we raise through our performances go directly back to the community, supporting rural and educational initiatives.

  • Gillies Community Centre - Mile Hill has been fortunate to be able to call the Gillies Community Centre home since our very first production back in 1991. Because of this, we have made a commitment to ensuring that the centre has the resources it needs to run programs and events smoothly. In addition to an annual donation, Mile Hill has provided funds for:
    • Canada Day fireworks displays;
    • wheelchair accessible upgrades; and
    • community centre renovations.
  • Rural Cupboard Food Bank - Since 2008 we have supported the Rural Cupboard Food Bank with an annual donation. Located in Kakabeka Falls, the food bank serves a huge rural area that extends South to the Pigeon River border and west to Upsala. In addition to a food bank, the organization also stocks toys and some household items, and ensures larger donated items such as fridges and stoves are distributed to families in need.
  • Mile Hill Melodrama Dramatic Arts Bursary - Each year, we provide a bursay for one graduating Westgate C&VI student who has excelled in theatre and dramatic arts, and who is in financial need.
